TAKING BACK AUGUST

An undergraduate senior thesis film through the most advanced, honors production course Boston University offers.

Taking Back August is about a declining film star named August who receives a surprise visit from her estranged son Grayson. They are forced to spend quality time together as she grapples with deciding whether or not to change her relationship with him and motherhood as a whole. However, August has just discovered that she’s become pregnant with her fiance’s child and must decide what this means for her career as well as family values. The story’s themes follow identity, confrontation, and August’s perception of the potential for change. The audience longs for a resolution for mother and son as their eventual desires and feelings towards each other finally spill out the truth.

Taking Back August is an undergraduate senior thesis film in development through Production III, the most advanced, honors production course Boston University offers. The script was chosen by the Film and Television Department to be produced this fall semester by a group of six students in the honors course to produce a festival-quality film to compete with the best student films in America.

Taking Back August was written by Lauren Gotard and directed by Katherine Gotard. This production marks the first film to be collaboratively produced by Katherine and Lauren, an incredibly exciting step in their goal of becoming a sister filmmaking duo. James Cherico is the producer and Eric Park is the Director of Photography.
